Hi group!

I would like to use this outdoors for portraits.  How much light loss is there?  I am thinking about using a SS or Aluminum  pot polished with a mirror finish. I would also use it without the diffuser.  How many stops are you loosing?

Thanks for your help,

Lem7

Hello and welcome Lem7...hard to say how much light is lost...I don't even consider it.  For instance let's say I used just the flash at 1/8th power, then with this ring flash I would bump up the pwr maybe 1/2 increment, so 1/8th -.5 (closer to 1/4th), thinking in 580EX Speedlite terms.

Hi, this is my first post on here. I was wondering if there is someone in my area who can build one of these for me. I will pay for supplies and shipping. Please let me know if  you are interested. I am located in Northern California. Thanks in advance.

I just found this a couple months ago and will start assembling mine this weekend. My question is, what about painting the inside white rather than using the silver tape? Would that reflect more light from the flash?

Welcome to the forum.

If the paint was not a pure white, then you might get some color cast using the paint, but other than that I can't thing of a problem with the white paint.

Hey tlbrooks...already replied to your youtube...try it...then go over the top with temp AL foil and see any differences...remember, my take on it was to preserve as much light as possible reaching my diffuser of choice, from there I can adjust, more/less/different diffuser etc.
