Great!  Nice job...good finish...yea, maybe slightly hot towards the bottom but you will learn to cope with that soon.

I'm about to try to build this set up and I have two questions:

1) What is the best screws to use when attaching the camera and flash and where did you get them?

2) I know that there is some difficulty with having a hot spot at the flash side of the build, has anyone ever tried
to use the built in white card on the 580ex to keep the light from hitting that bottom side so hard?  Does it help?

wow, thanks so much for sharing this info... quick question: what kind of primer and finishing to use, or does it not matter?

got another question: what sync cord do you use for your 580EX?   i've searched online and it seems none of the ones i found have threaded holes at the end.

AWESOME!!!
I am going to make me one.  Now just one question.
Since I have a manual focus Nikon macro lens, how do I adjust the focus ring for macro?  If the lens is placed too far into the lens "tunnel" I wont be able to reach it

That's difficult and one of the major drawbacks...work-around is to set focus and just move the camera/ring-flash until subject is in focus.

Wow realy must say your ringflash DIY tutorial is one of the best on the internet atm. Have started the project myself and it's going just fine, having a problem connecting the flash to the metal bar tough.

What kind of screw are you using to the Nikon tutorial, it seams to easy to screw off and on?

Sorry for my poor english, hope you can understand what I'm trying to say Smiley

Thanks again for a great guide!

I think it's a 1/4 inch 20 TPI (threads per inch) coarse bolt...let me verify and I'll get back to you.

Thanks motley.
After have done some googling it seams like it's a 1/4 inch bolt so you are correct.
But I cant find those 1/4 inch bolts with that platic ends, was wondering if you might remember where you bought em? Have finished the tutorial and only need to screw it all together  Smiley

- Did find out what they are called after all, 1/4 Thumb Screw. Hope to find it in Sweden and I will post my final result!

Thanks,
Christoffer

Good luck...this is SAE English size...too bad they are not metric as it would be VERY easy to find.

I started this project the other then got to thinking. Should the eye (Canon 430ex) be facing forward toward the subject?

What do you mean by "eye"?

Auto focus assist beam.

I guess that would not be real important but would it help to have it put front?  Thanks
